stingy, cheapskate 구두쇠 짠돌이 영어로

 

물가가 요즘 너무 많이 올라서 나도 모르게 밖에 잘 안 나가고 짠돌이가 되고 있는 것 같다. 그렇다면 영어로 짠돌이, 구두쇠 (돈을 잘 안 쓰는 사람)는 뭐라고 표현할까? 바로 a stingy person, cheapskate, penny-pincher 라고 표현할 수 있습니다. 먼저 A stingy person을 구글링해보면 someone who is unwilling to share, give, or spend money or possessions. 이라고 설명하고 있으며 cheapskate도 비슷하게 a person who hates to spend money.라고 되어있다. 그나저나 구두쇠, 짠돌이...돈 쓸 때는 써야지 ^^; (구두쇠, 짠돌이가 되지 말아야겠다) 

 

 

Be Stingy With Something

a stingy person이라고 말할 수도 있으나 be stingy with (something) 표현을 활용하여 무언가에 인색하다라고도 사용할 수도 있으며 이 때는 구두쇠, 짠돌이와 다르게 꼭 돈에 대한 인색함만을 의미하지는 않습니다. 그럼 Be Stingy With Something 예문 한 번 살펴보겠습니다.

• My friends labeled me a cheapskate because I rarely spent money on something to drink at the bar. 술 집에서 마실 것 조차 잘 돈을 안 써서 친구들이 나를 짠돌이라고 불렀어.
• He's such a cheapskate that he refuses to turn on the heater, even in freezing weather. 그는 짠돌이라 추운 날씨에도 히터를 절대 안 켜.
• He's known for being stingy, often refusing to tip waitstaff at restaurants. 그는 (돈에) 인색해서 가게 웨이터한테 팁주는 것도 자주 거절해.  
• My friends joke that I am a cheapskate because I only buy clothes during clearance sales. 할인 행사 때만 옷을 사서그런지 친구들이 나보고 짠돌이라고 농담을 해.

절약, 아끼는 거 너무나 중요하지만 때로는 여유를 가지고 자신이나 주변 사람들을 위해 투자하는 게 아끼는 것보다 더 중요할 때도 있습니다. 너무 다들 너무 인색하지는 맙시다 ^^ (저한테 하는 말) Being frugal is great, but sometimes it's worth spending a liitle to enjoy life or make someone's day happier.
